Class I Recall — Most Serious

This is a Class I recall — the most serious type. Products covered by this recall may cause serious health consequences or death.

Primavera Nueva Inc. has announced a voluntary recall of certain 4-count tamales due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. This organism can cause serious infections, especially in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. While healthy individuals may experience mild symptoms, listeria can lead to miscarriages or stillbirths in pregnant women.

Products Affected:

  • Roasted Green Chile & Jack Cheese
  • Black Bean Bonanza & Jack Cheese
  • Butternut Squash with Roasted Green Chiles & Cheese
  • BBQ Chipotle Bean & White Cheddar
  • Mushroom Spinach & Salsa with Two Cheeses
  • Roasted Green Chile
  • Black Bean Bonanza
  • Butternut Squash with Roasted Green Chiles
  • Mushroom Spinach & Salsa

These tamales were distributed in California and Nevada and were produced between October 10, 2024, and October 10, 2025. No other products from Primavera Nueva are affected by this recall.

Reason for Recall:

The recall was initiated after an FDA inspection revealed inconsistent cooking temperature records, which are crucial for controlling biological hazards such as Listeria monocytogenes. The company has since improved its cooking-temperature monitoring and verification processes.

Consumer Guidance:

Consumers who have purchased these tamales with date codes from 10/22/2024 to 10/22/2025 should not consume them and are advised to discard the products. For further information, consumers can contact Araceli Santoyo at [email protected] or call 707-939-9350, Monday through Friday, 9 am to 3 pm Pacific Time.

This recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. No illnesses have been reported to date.
