Clover Hill Dairy, based in Mechanicsville, Maryland, has initiated a voluntary recall of its Soft Ricotta/Requeson Cheese due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. This organism can cause serious infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

The affected cheese was distributed between May 4 and May 30, 2026, across North Carolina, New York, Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, and Washington, DC. It was available in retail stores, through bulk distributors, and directly to consumers. The cheese was sold in 10, 12, and 14-ounce clamshell containers under the Clover Hill Dairy brand, identifiable by plant number 24-128 on the label. Additionally, bulk quantities were distributed in 2 and 5-gallon buckets, potentially repackaged under various brand names such as KESSO, QUESOS LA RICURA, IZALCO, DE MI PUEBLO, and RIO LINDO.

To date, eight cases of Listeria infections have been potentially linked to this product. Consumers who have purchased the recalled cheese are advised to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. For further inquiries, customers can contact the Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission at 240-528-8850 extension 327.

This recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Maryland Department of Health (MDH). Clover Hill Dairy has halted production and distribution of all cheese products while investigations continue.
