Clover Hill Dairy, based in Mechanicsville, Maryland, has expanded its recall to include all Clover Hill Dairy brand cheese products due to potential contamination with Listeria. This recall is being conducted with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Products Affected:
- All Clover Hill Dairy brand cheeses, including Ricotta, Soft Cuajada in Brine, Soft Cuajada (vacuum sealed), Yummy Cheddar, White Cheddar, White Colby, Monterey Jack, Marble Jack, Fresh Cheddar Curd, and various flavored and smoked cheeses.
- Products are sold at Clover Hill Dairy's retail market, farmers markets, and through distributors in North Carolina, New York, Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C.
- Some products may be relabeled under different brand names such as KESSO, QUESOS LA RICURA, IZALCO, DE MI PUEBLO, and RIO LINDO.
Reason for Recall:
The recall was initiated due to the potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, particularly in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Pregnant women are also at risk as Listeria infection can lead to miscarriages and stillbirths.
Health Impact:
To date, there have been 9 reported illnesses, 8 hospitalizations, and 1 death linked to these cheese products.
Consumer Action:
Consumers are advised not to eat, sell, or serve the recalled cheese. Products should be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.
