Northwest Naturals has issued a voluntary recall for two of its raw pet food products due to potential contamination with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes. This recall affects certain lots of their Frozen Chicken Recipe for cats and dogs.

Products Affected:

  • Northwest Naturals Frozen Chicken Recipe (cat food and protein topper for dogs), 2 lbs. bag (12 bags per case) — Lot B-5 — Best By 01/26/2028 — UPC 087316384956
  • Northwest Naturals Frozen Raw Diet for Dogs Chicken Recipe, 6 lbs. bag (6 bags per case) — Lot B-19 — Best By 01/25/2028 — UPC 087316380392

The products were distributed nationwide to retail stores. Consumers who have purchased these products should stop feeding them to their pets and return the unused portion to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Reason for Recall:

The recall was initiated after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) tested product samples and found contamination. The presence of Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes poses health risks to both pets and humans. While no illnesses have been reported, these bacteria can cause serious health issues.

Health Risks:

Salmonella can cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever in humans. Listeria monocytogenes can lead to symptoms like headache, fever, muscle aches, and more severe outcomes in vulnerable populations. Pets may exhibit lethargy, diarrhea, fever, and vomiting if infected.

Consumers with questions can contact Northwest Naturals at 1-866-637-1872, Monday-Thursday 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Pacific Time. Safe handling practices are crucial when dealing with raw pet food to prevent contamination.
