Alert: Meat and Poultry Products Recalled for Salmonella Risk

A public health alert has been issued for certain meat and poultry products due to potential contamination with Salmonella. These products contain dairy ingredients regulated by the FDA that may be affected.

The alert involves products distributed to various states, and consumers are advised to frequently check for updates as more products may be identified. Detailed information, including establishment numbers and distribution states, can be found on the FSIS website.

The issue was discovered when the FDA informed FSIS that several establishments received ingredients containing dry milk powder that had been recalled. Consuming food contaminated with Salmonella can lead to salmonellosis, which typically causes diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever. While most recover without treatment, severe cases may require hospitalization, especially in vulnerable groups such as older adults, infants, and those with weakened immune systems.

No adverse reactions have been confirmed so far. However, consumers who experience symptoms should contact their healthcare provider. FSIS advises that any affected products should not be consumed and should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase. Retailers are also urged not to sell or serve these products.
